The wine
When 2.000 years ago the Romans came through Lothringen and Burgund to the Saar, the celtic Treverer had already conducted viniculture .
The new men from the south improved the methods and grew grapevines abundantly.
In the Middle Ages particularly monasteries carried on the attention of viniculture. The Riesling-Vine brought the decisive development at the Saar.1465 it was mentioned for the first time. In the 18th century the ruler Clemens Wenzeslaus from Trier obliged the winegrower to grow this kind of vine. The smart church ruler had recognized that the Riesling was the best wine to develop in his clime.
The slate of the Saar slopes is a good heat server. During the night the slate gives power served from the sun away and hence it reduces the variations in temperature. So the Riesling grown in the northern cultivated land is able to compete with the wines of the south, particularly with wine grown at slopes directed to the south which catches the most sunlight

The slate also characterizes the taste of the Saar-Riesling and gives it his unmistakable character. Wine connoisseurs appreciate the fruity taste and the fine sourness of the Saar-Riesling.And one should know that a Riesling-Kabinettwine is the wine from the Saar with the lowest alcohol strength of the world. And wines of the Saar seem piquant and elegant.
The Saar-Riesling is suitable for being a basic wine for top-Cuvees.

The Saar-Riesling grows slowly in the classic fermentation process and becomes a sparkly perfection. It is as elegant and racial as the champagne.
