History The word Ayl is a
derivation in the German language from Eigel, in Latin from aquila and
in French from aigle. The German translation of an old chronicle contains
the meaning of eagle. Initially, the town had been a Roman fort, where
a Roman soldier unit with a standard had been stationed. Then, it developed
into Ayl. Roman graves with glass finds from about 300 years after Christus
testify a former settlement. The chronicle of
the parish Ayl can be bought from the mayor for 20,50 Euro. |
